Three January Twenty Two

Hello 2022! I'm ready, willing and able.

Howdy Folks,

I've made it through the holiday break safe and sound. Admittedly, I had a few too many snacks - but meh, I had a good time. I spent many hours hanging with some relatives who had travelled from the U.S of A and found my love for the water (again). You see, in my youth I spent a lot of time swimming, teaching kids how to swim, and then life guarding. Naturally, I was a constantly prune-y and wreaked of chlorine. When I stopped all my water-based vocations almost 20 years ago, I also avoided activities of the melted water variety. Though I still much enjoy the frozen water activities. Over this summer however, I have reignited my love for the water and remembered the joy of bobbing around feeling weightless and splashing about with the kids. I was certainly was appreciative of the weightless bobbing after all the snacking.

I'm super excited about 2022, well, I'm usually excited about the future, being an optimist and all.

Like some (or most), my business was affected during the Sydney lockdown so I had a bit of extra time to think. After a few meltdown moments and even more breaths, I opened up my “ideas book” and got to working. My ideas book is a small notebook which I carry around and into which I scribble my random thoughts and, well, ideas. It’s super fun to flip through and read some of my rather comical ideas.

No Rhea, you can’t build a teleportation device out of cardboard and uni-directional bonding strip.

On occasion, though, there is an idea worth exploring and hashing out. So during the 2021 lockdown, I went to the book and started digging. There was one real plan to co-host a podcast with my good friend, James, fortunately for him, he is now mainly a man of leisure and thus gave me his blessing to go at it alone with the promise he would be a regular guest. With that - The Intelligent Rebellion Podcast was born.

I also started looking for some guidance in developing my education and mentoring programs. This lead me down quite a spectacular path which started with my calling Christine “The Genie” from Dr Adam Fraser’s office, then Sharon from Agent 99 PR who introduced me to Julie Masters, the host of Inside Influence Podcast and leading expert in building trust and authority who them introduced me to Rebecca Tapp and Amy Rose of Supernova.

Christine, Sharon and Julie were all so generous in giving their time to speak with me and answer all of the questions about all of the things, impart some of their wisdom upon me and even showed me immense kindness by opening up their network and making introductions.

From the moment I spoke with Rebecca, there was an instant connection – she was the right person to help me continue on the path. I worked with Rebecca and Amy for months brainstorming, defining and refining purpose and mission. They encouraged and helped me find my confidence, my centre, turn the volume up and blast off.

For me 2021 was about following the breadcrumbs and exploring. It was about making the next call, setting the next Zoom meeting and writing the next email. It was simply about showing up and working on process and not on perfection.

2021 was trusting that process, experimenting, failing and then showing up, again and again and again. It was the year to ignite, the year to be courageous and vulnerable. Mostly though, it was the year I needed to be adaptable and lean into optimism.

In 2021 I made a serious decision to live my intentional destiny, one which is grounded in imagination, curiosity, creativity and community.

It's this new adventure that takes me into 2022. This year I join The Future Crunch team as the resident Healthcare Humanist. We are a group of un-like minds, a group of scientists, artists, technologists and entrepreneurs. Our mission is to foster intelligent, optimistic thinking about the future, and to empower people to contribute to it.

Hello 2022! I’ve found my voice and I’m claiming my space.
